The Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) program provides students with scientific, social, behavioral, and technical knowledge for the prevention of disease and disability and for the promotion of health through organized community efforts. The M.P.H. program prepares individuals to conduct research on the determinants of disease, disability, and death; to solve public health problems; and to evaluate the accomplishments of health care institutions, governmental and nongovernmental organizations, and political systems in relation to health issues. The affordable 46-credit program accommodates individuals with
daytime responsibilities. Courses are offered Monday through Thursday
evenings. H&NTR 740X Introduction to Public Health A sequence of two courses that culminates in the writing of either a
master's paper or a master's thesis. Students who have completed or are in the process of completing the MA degree in Community Health may apply for the M.P.H. degree by submitting a new admission application to the Division of Graduate Studies. Past or current MA students who have achieved a grade of "B" or better in each of the following courses H&NTR 761X, 771X, and 778.1X will not required to take the Graduate Record Examination for admission to the M.P.H. degree program. Please note any core course for which a student received a grade of less than a "B" will have to be retaken. Students who completed the MA program with two Master's Paper courses, i.e., H&NTR 797.1X... H&NTR 797.9X will need to take H&NTR 791.3X.
